Xu Muqing's trembling voice reverberated around the gloomy operating room. She laid on the ice-cold operating table as the pungent stench of antiseptic filled the air.

She had gotten her surgeon to send those words to Li Hang on her behalf before she was to undergo her cardiac surgery.

She had called the number countless times but, alas, there was no response after several attempts.

She was filled with despair before entering the operating room. But the text message, which highlighted her anticipation for the next life, offered a glimpse of hope in the midst of her woeful state.

After the anesthesia started taking effect, she gradually shut her eyes as a drop of tear rolled down her delicate and pale cheeks.

However, unbeknownst to her, the message was never sent. In fact, there was not even a single word typed on the phone.

Standing by her side was a tall man with a perfectly sculpted body and a steady gaze.

While he removed his surgical mask to reveal a charming face, his fervent gaze was set on the unconscious Xu Muqing.

He muttered under his breath, "We do not need to wait for the next life. I have returned, my dear."

Li Hang put on his surgical mask as he lifted his hands to begin the procedure.

He was so agile with his hands movements that they seemed to be dancing beneath the surgical lamps.

At this moment, the operating room was a pin drop silence with more than ten leading cardiology experts from local and overseas surrounding the table.

Within the crowd, there were black-haired, blonde, brown-haired, and even a mix of black and grey-haired persons present.

Despite the stark difference in nationalities, they shared a single commonality. They were all female!

I woke up with ever so damn loud and vexatious voice of my alarm. I literally wanted to get up and throw it out of the damn window.

Why does the alarm have to be so fucking annoying?

I thought as i sighed and rolled out of the bed. I went straight to the bathroom and nearly gasped as i saw myself in the mirror.

It was like i had seen a fucking ghost. But no, there was no Bloody Mary in the mirror but me.

I stood there with the worst bed hair and a little drool on the corner of my mouth.

I cringed as i turned away and decided to brush my teeth and wash my face first.

Then, I had the longest shower as i ironically sang 'Shower' by Becky G and many other songs. I got out of the bathroom after wrapping the towel tightly around me and one more towel on my head.

I walked into my walk-in closet and wore a random white top with a black pant. I decided to tie a blue and black checked shirt around my waist too.

I then blow dried my hair as fast as i could and tied my hair into a high ponytail. I put on some lip gloss and eyeliner on my waterline and wore my black vans.

I checked the time.

7:48 a.m.

I still had 40 minutes left. I went downstairs and straight into the dining room. Mom and dad were already seated.

Julia was not found. "Good morning" i greeted my parents and my maids as i took my seat and kept my bag on the seat next to me.

They greeted me back and the maids served me my pancakes and poured chocolate syrup on it. It looked so damn tasty.

As soon as the maids left the room, i started eating my pancakes like a hungry animal. "Slow down tiger" my dad said as he chuckled and shook his head.

I swallowed my food and answered him, "the pancakes are so delicious that i could go on eating them forever" i said as i took another bite of my heavenly pancakes.

"Honey, i know you are loving the pancakes, but i would like you to check the time" my mom said, sweetly.

I looked at the time....

8:11 am.

I literally groaned. Where has the time gone by?

I stuffed the pancakes in my mouth as fast as i could and drank my coffee in an in-human speed as i took my car keys and rushed to my Mini Copper Countrymen.

I love this beauty. This id my 16th birthday gift.

Tight enough to make them feel uncomfortable but not enough to suffocate from it. A tension so thick one can almost see it, pervade the meeting room, eliciting cold sweat to run down the backs of everyone present—all except 2 people, Audrey Capulet of the Capulet Syndicate, and Romeo Aldrich of the Aldrich Organization. The bosses' of the top 2 mafia families, each dominating half of the shady side of Sanbranc.

Ironically, the 2 influential figures of the underworld appear to be the most relaxed, whilst their subordinates are on edge and ready to spring into action at a moments' notice. One couldn't tell if this was their confidence or arrogance to be at ease in the enemies' presence as if the other had not attempted to reap their lives at any opportunity given.

Just as their subordinates felt their nerves on the verge of snapping even though only a short time had passed, rhythmic tapping of fingers on the antique wood table beat down on their hearts. Each tap acting as a guide, leading them step by step into impending doom. When the torture that lasted for a moment but felt like an eternity finally stopped, a soft chuckle chilled their hearts. The few that built up the courage to sneak a glimpse at Audrey Capulet suffered instantaneous regret for having done so.

Despite Audrey chuckling, her ice-cold eyes held no traces of a smile, only a hint of killing intent could be perceived behind its' frigid blue.

"Mr Aldrich, don't you think this joke is of bad taste." After dropping this short sentence, even the most ignorant could tell that Audrey was immensely dissatisfied.

The tapping of Audreys' fingers resumed in a light rhythmic way, in a silent countdown for Romeo to give an answer that satisfied her.

"You know that could never be my intention Ms Audrey, I wouldn't dare to pull such a joke on the head of the Capulet Syndicate. Besides putting you in a bad mood, there are no other benefits I could possibly gain from doing so." Romeo replied lightly, clearly showing that Audrey's threat didn't enter his eyes.

The tapping stopped, and a suffocating silence blanketed everyone. The subordinates breathed lightly in hopes of not drawing attention to themselves. The soft ticking of the clock suddenly seemed exceedingly loud and became the only sound that seemed to exist in the large room. One side staring coldly, while the other held on to that same expressionless face with nonchalance in his eyes. This silent battle for control continued on until a knock on the door interrupted it.

Audrey's eyes swept to the closed heavy double doors and lightly opened her mouth, "enter."

A young man in his twenties carrying an unnerving smile entered the room and the tension multiplied by several folds.

The young man first greeted Romeo curtly, "Boss."

Then proceeded to greet Audrey with a hint of teasing hidden underneath his facade of politeness, "Ms Audrey, you seem colder than usual."

Slamming my hand onto my alarm for about the sixth time this morning, I finally lifted my body off of my extremely comfy bed. It seemed dramatic, but I felt like I was losing a friend when my skin was no longer touching the soft sheets.

Unfortunately, It was the first day back at school and being a senior, I still didn't think I could ever get used to getting up at six thirty in the morning. I felt genuine pain when I would hear my alarm.

Seeing as the word 'snooze' was hit one too many times, it was now twenty minutes past seven, which didn't give me much time to get ready.

"Gabby, James gets here in twenty minutes, so get up!" Kylie shouted harshly as she pushed the door open to my room. I smiled sarcastically at her before getting to my feet and walking to the bathroom.

Kylie was my fifteen-year-old sister, and she annoyed me more than most things in life. As a child, I was thrilled at the prospect of a new little sister. That was until I heard the first ear-splitting scream from the cot in the hospital room.

Ever since then, its all been downhill.

However, on odd occasions, she can be kind to me, but it was very rare and happened maybe once every year. " I know," I huffed out as I locked the bathroom door and stepped into the shower.

As soon as the warm water hit my head, I was automatically relaxed again. If I had a choice, I would spend my days alternating between my bed and the shower.

Despite not having long until our lift was here, I took a longer shower than necessary, making sure I washed my hair and body, whilst also trying to fully wake myself up. However, it was easier said than done.

As soon as I climbed out, I dried myself and picked out some blue jeans and a white t-shirt to go with them. My wardrobe wasn't exactly very interesting, but it was filled with my comfiest clothes, and that's all I needed.

Dragging a towel through my hair, I left it natural, not having enough time to do anything remotely nice with it. My hair was a dark brown colour and fell comfortably below my chest, and like most people in my family, it was thick and wavy, with some curls falling at odd places.

I applied a small amount of make up and put the necessary books into my school bag.
